This book takes a close look at some of the most beautiful depictions of saints in Western art. Over 70 artworks, including key works by Raphael, Crivelli and Dürer, are illustrated alongside a series of gorgeous details. 

Before becoming icons, saints were ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives. Whether martyrs or mystics, healers or hermits, visionaries or miracle workers, their stories were full of drama – from Saint Barbara, who survived burning only to be beheaded by her father, to the wealthy Saint Francis, who stripped naked in the town square to renounce his inheritance.
